Launching Yard no. 723 - SANTIAGO

On 7th October 2016 at 11:00 hrs, yard 723 constructed by shipyard 3. MAJ for the Spanish company MARFLET MARINE was launched in 3. MAJ Shipyard from slipway no. 2. The Director of 3. MAJ Shipyard, Mr. Domagoj Klarić addressed a warm welcome to the President of the Republic of Croatia, Mrs Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, as well as to all present on behalf of the workers of ULJANIK Group and shipyard 3. MAJ. He further thanked all the project engineers, engineers and workers who took part in the design and construction of the tanker for their effort and engagement. The owner of the company Marflet, Mr. Carlos Cremades, looked back at their long collaboration with Uljanik shipyard from Pula and who, despite the war and decisions made by other shipowners, still did not decide to cancel the contracted newbuildings.

The godmother of the ship, the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, thanked the orderer of the ship, the company Marflet, for expressing trust and confidence in ULJANIK Group and 3. MAJ: „I would like to express my gratitude for having been with us in the most difficult times, during the Homeland War. At the time you were one of the few orderers of ships in our shipyards. By doing so you have contributed to preserving jobs, as well as the survival of the Croatian shipbuilding industry which, thanks to you, was and remains a very important part of the Croatian economy“, she said and then, by cutting the rope, wished the ship SANTIAGO safe and calm seas.

Following the launching, the President spent some time with the youngest attendants at the ceremony – children from the kindergarten Vladimir Nazor from Kastav as well as children from the elementary school Eugen Kumičić. The launching was also attended by the Spanish Ambassador in Croatia, Mr. Eduardo Aznar Campos. The launching was successfully guided by the leader of the launching, Mr. Željko Vučković, while the ship was blessed by the Rev. Luka Lučić.
